Shanghai Dog friendly Hotels
Have you ever regretted not being around in 1966 to stay in a farm?
Actual paw rating: 4.5/5
Well, worry not, the 1966 QianWei hotel on Changxing Island is ready to welcome you and your bum-sniffing buddy. Most importantly, this hotel is as pet friendly as it can be. This is because the policy towards pets is basically ‘it’s ok’, they can roam everywhere, only needing to be leashed when you are in the dining hall (and you can request a private dining room if even that is too much). Also, this hotel is directly adjacent to Changxing Island Country Park, which is a huge park with plenty of places for our furry friends to sniff some of Changxing’s finest fruits, flowers, or meet some other four-legged enthusiasts. Full disclosure, there is a small dog cleaning fee for the hotel, but it is very reasonable.A great option if your looking for Shanghai dog friendly hotels.
The Hotel
1966 Qianwei hotel is easiest to get to if you drive. A Didi would be possible, but it may be pricey. Once you are there, the rooms are large, comfortable, and full of interesting relics from 1966. We were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and attention to detail in the rooms, drinking coffee from propaganda mugs, and finding the outdoor jacuzzi recently cleaned (only Archie, our canine son, briefly used this though). The hotel grounds are large, with plenty of places for both pups and humans to explore. Pups are free to go inside the reception, the ‘educated students’ bar, or the dining areas. The food is local, both fresh and reasonably priced, and the staff are very welcoming. Overall, the hotel itself is large and welcoming, but this is just the start of the canine adventure…

Changxing Island Country Park
Changxing Island Country Park is just across a small bridge from the hotel and it is a great place for pups to test their noses. The park contains lots of different orchards and small meadows, where you can pick different fruits or enjoy the colourful break from the grey concrete of the city. There are open park areas for picnics too, which we found was a great place for our little pup to exhaust his zoomies and then lie down and have a nap. There are also areas for kids to play, like the dinosaur park, and the animal park, with goats and ostriches amongst other creatures, which I probably enjoyed more than 99% of the kids. Overall, the proximity to the park takes the 1966 QianWei Hotel from a good, convenient, dog-friendly place to visit to a great destination, within Shanghai, for a doggie escape.
