Changxing Island is known as the ' Hometown of Orange' because of the sheer amount of orange trees.
Close to Chongming Island, there is a smaller island that is known for its oranges. There are orange trees everywhere and the oranges are deliciously sweet.
Changxing Island is about an hour drive from the city center of Shanghai and there is a dog-friendly park on the island. This park is free for people to visit, but dogs have to buy a ticket.
Dog tickets are 40 RMB per dog regardless of size.
This is an on-leash dog park, but we have always taken our dogs off-leash with no problems.
Changxing Dao Jiaye Gongyuan (长兴岛郊野公园) is known for being dog friendly. The park is fairly large and in most areas we didn’t see anyone. The park has sections within it. There are many kid play areas. Some of these areas are free, and some have an extra fee.
There were also a few petting zoo areas. One had no entry fee and was dog friendly. We had our dogs on leash in this area. Hugo actually stuck his whole head in one of the goat cages.
The park is a good day trip from Shanghai city center. It took us about an hour to drive there. They have many parking lots. We parked for the day and it cost only 15 RMB.
The park has an area that offers horse rides as well. They also have BBQ stations for rent.
There is also an option to rent a tent here and go ‘glamping’ as they called it.
