Chengdu's North Lake Park- BeiHu ShengTai GongYuan
北湖生态公园
Bei Hu is a gem of a park in Chengdu’s northern district of ChengHua. It has lots of large green expanses of grass that are great for letting our four legged friends stretch out and fetch out on. The pictures I took belie how crowded the park can be probably in no small part due to the fact it is FREE and doesn’t have an entry fee. Even as crowded as some of the lanes are, we managed to find quite a few quiet spots for Nova to run and play with the other dogs.
As the name suggests, there is a large lake. I am not sure that dogs playing in the water is actually allowed, but we did see one labrador swim clear across the lack following master. The park security didn’t hassle us or any of the other dog owners. Although not technically a dog park, the people of Chengdu are very friendly around dogs and often want to introduce their children often cooing “gou, gou gou” to their little ones.
The park also has some really nice groves of trees. We particularly liked the dense bamboo forest that muted all of the outside noise and sheltered a cocophony of bird song. It also features a small kids carnival, but not having gone down that road I avoided the madhouse and settles on the outskirts with some sausages from a local vendor before making our way back out of the park along the grassy hills.
The last thing I will say is that it is well landscaped granting beautiful views. The park was too big for a single serving and at a short scooter ride from my home will be visited again soon.
Located in the north of Chengdu: ChengHua District.
