So many choices, so few days
Moganshan is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of bigger and busier cities. It is relatively quiet (depending on where you go) and the whole area is a hiking lover’s dream with many paths meandering though the surrounding bamboo forest. This is also a great place to let your dog off leash and be free. Hugo and I frequent Moganshan often for this reason. We are always able to find a path where he can be safely off leash.
We’ve compiled a list of a few dog friendly hotels. These hotels have been tested for dog owners and their dogs to ensure they are a great place to bring your furry family. Of course, this is not a complete list, and if you know of somewhere that should be on the list please let us know!

Solvang Village Boutique Hotel, located near Moganshan Scenic Area (You can walk up Moganshan from the hotel) is quiet, immersed in nature, and comfortable. Surrounded by bamboo forests, it is ideal for pet owners, as it is the last house on the road, meaning you don’t have to worry about traffic endangering your dog. With some short walks and some long walks starting from the hotel itself, it is great for hiking enthusiasts of differing levels.
There are swimming spots nearby the hotel.

Beautiful guesthouse set amongst the backdrop of mountains in Moganshan. The hotel is extremely open to dogs, no matter the size. The owner of the guest house also has their own dogs and cats. This meant I wasn’t worried about keeping my dog on a leash the whole time. The biggest selling point for me on the guest house was the beautiful courtyard area outside. There were plenty of places to just sit and let the dogs run around in the courtyard. As the guesthouse was on a hill, there was no passing traffic which meant I could let The Boy place as he wanted to.

Moganshan Twinbridge Homestay
The owner, Ada, of the guesthouse is more than okay with dogs. She has 2 dogs herself. This hotel is also very small, only 10 rooms so it is perfect if your looking to get away from the crowds.
The hotel is not really located in the scenic area of Moganshan so its very peaceful without the commercial vibes elsewhere in the area. This makes is a perfect area for dogs as there is less car traffic as well as less people so we can easily let our dogs safely off leash.

Lohas Home and Guesthouse

The guesthouse has two parts to it, the main villa which has a lovely big pool, and the owners allow dogs to enter the pool as it’s cleaned every morning. Each room has its own private balcony allowing your fury baby to stretch their legs in the middle of the evening or go to the bathroom.
There is another villa beside the main villa and its fantastic for groups as its more private. Both villas are fenced in, so the dogs can run freely. The owners of the guesthouse are friendly and will even check in on your dog if you have to step out without them.

This hotel was absolutely great for the people and dogs. The rooms very super cozy and the pool was spectacular. It even has a waterslide! Perfect for a summer getaway. The pool is not dog friendly though!
By the pool area there is a grass patch which is perfect for the dogs to play and run around in. There is also ample shade areas for the dogs to relax if it gets too hot in the summer months. There is also a smaller grass patch as the front of the hotel for the dogs. I have been to this hotel a few times on dog trips, with about 20 dogs. The owners were at ease with the dogs and accompanied us to the pool while we swam and for meals. They were totally fine with the dogs and us having so many dogs definitely says something for how dog friendly it is.

Mogan Mountain Villa

We stayed here over a long weekend and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. They seemed completely at ease with our 8 dogs! They gave us a private room for dinner so our dogs could come down with us and they didn’t mind our dogs being off leash in the guesthouse. The food was also very good at this guesthouse.
There is a nice grass area by the pool and a balcony where we spent a lot of time with the dogs. We were really lucky because the other guests at the hotel seemed fine with dogs and would even pet our pups when they saw them.
There is a nice empty reservoir, we found by accident, which led to a nice trail through the bamboo. This was a great morning walk spot.
The only downfall was the street dogs. They were friendly, but when one started barking they all did. It felt like I was in a movie with all the sporadic howling.

Xxhomestay

This hotel consisted of two large houses and a smaller annex building which we stayed in, with a shared pool and garden. The owner was really helpful, giving us tips on where we could take Peggy. He has two dogs himself and was happy for Peggy to roam free in the garden and play around the pool whilst we swam. There isn’t much around the accommodation but there is one shop where you can get basics like snacks and coffee.
Not far from our accommodation was a river that runs all the way to Moganshan town. It took us around 20 minutes to get to the town and we walked along the river every day to get something to eat. There were plenty of spots for Peggy to swim and for us to rest. The track was fairly untouched, but they were doing some building work along parts of the river and we saw artist impression images of how it will look when it is finished. They are building a walkway all along the river and it looked like it will be beautiful when it’s done.
