Ultimate guide for essential documentation for dog travel in China

Domestic pet friendly travel in China

What you need

Travelling with your dog can be an amazing experience but figuring out what documents you should bring with you can be daunting. Every province/ city has different rules and regulations regarding dogs. Make sure you keep your dog safe and lookup specific cities dog regulations. Most cities just require your dog to be on a leash, but cities such as Hangzhou have harsh dog regulations, including walking times where the dog cannot be out from 7am to 7pm in the city.

First and foremost, make sure to get your dog licensed in your respective city. When I travel with my dog, I always make sure to bring his dog license with me. I also bring his vaccination booklets just in case. You never know what can happen and it is better to play it safe and have proof of vaccinations. My foster dog does not have a license, so I make sure to bring his vaccination booklets and any documentation regarding vaccinations.

Again, make sure to look up the area you intend to travel to and check local regulations and how strict these regulations are enforced.  We’ve travelled across China (Shanghai to Guizhou) with many stops along the way and have never had a problem but better safe than sorry.
